Time to announce the winner of our West Coast Hip Hop Guitar and Bass Flash Beat contest! Before we do, we want to give another big shout out to guest judge, producer and sound designer Greg Savage of www.DiyMusicBiz.com! Thank you again for taking the time to help us out. Please follow Greg on Twitter @diymbiz!
A quick recap of the rules:
5 Day Beat Competition: Produce an original instrumental beat using the guitar and bass loops provided in the FREE SOUNDS PACK as the predominant element in your beat! The free sounds came from our recent release Urban All Stars Guitar Loops and Licks Bundle Pack. Producers had to use at least 3 sounds from the free sounds pack provided. They could chop, pitch or loop out, re-sample or process these sounds in any way you choose. Along with the free sounds, producers could use any additional sounds of their choice to create their beats. Each producer was allowed to enter one west coast style and one non-west coast style beat.

AND NOW TIME TO ANNOUNCE THE WINNING PRODUCERS!!!!…..
CHAMPION Winning Producer is…
Track name: WESTCOAST BEAT COMP PROD
Why we chose this track:
P5 notes: Spot on authentic West Coast sound. Great arrangement and sound selection. Beat was interesting and musical while remaining reserved at the same time. Mix is clear while having grit at the same time. Loved the dual bass line groove. Would like to hear more drops and transitions in this track, but fundamentally this beat straight up nasty. Nice job again Wierdo!
Greg’s notes: Most authentic West sound in the competition, I love the fact that you didn’t over produce this – Simple = placements. Could have used a few more holes, but… it’s good, keeping doing your thing.
Ps. By ‘holes’ I mean drops, just to keep the listener interested. It adds emphasis to simple sections giving them more impact.

The Grand Prize:

And the runners up are:
Runner Up #1 : SenturyStatus
Track name: 40 Ounce
P5 notes: Most exciting beat by far. Great arrangement, nice crisp mix, transitions are off the chain. Great aggressive vibe.
Greg’s notes: Nice track, I like the way you used the sounds you were given and I really like your drops. I would have liked to hear more original use of the loops, but that’s just me. I still think you did a good job overall – arrangement was great.
Runner Up #2: Da Fingaz
Track name: Antidote
P5 notes: Most innovative composition, and most original use of the guitar and bass sounds provided. Lead line around 37 seconds is so sick. A little more aggressive drum programming might put this track on top.
Greg’s notes: You have some of the dopest lines in this competition, in my opinion this would have won the competition had you spent time on the ‘sound selection’.
Each runner gets a free copy of the Urban All Star Guitar Bundle!
