I LOVE the NAMM show, and I had to miss it last year because I was in the hospital giving birth… NOTHING ELSE would keep me from the show except that LOL! So I was really glad to go this year and I took tons of video and pics and took a lot of product literature from the various booths. I am going to try to put up the most interesting stuff in a series of blogs.
First thing I noticed about NAMM this year that was way different than NAMM two years ago:
EVERYTHING is hooked up to an Ipad. Microphones, keyboards, guitars, preamps.. and now MIDI interfaces designed for the Ipad and iphone. If you want to build a very portable studio around your ipad, it is about to become very easy and affordable. I am pretty sure that I am going to be doing this in 2011 so that when I travel I can still produce.
The iConnect Midi Interface: visit their site>>
This MIDI interface is the first to comply with iOS Core MIDI Framework… (which is Apple’s standard framework for developers to make apps.)
- Realtime MIDI event response with low latency.
- Saved routing configurations loaded at startup.
- Huge volumes of MIDI data in a very small lightweight body.
From what I saw (and you can see too in the video I took below) it works with any iphone/ipad app that supports coreMIDI and it also works with your regular old midi usb controller. It looks really cool. It is on my 2011 gear wish list (along with the iPad)!
Besides the actual iConnect MIDI I was VERY impressed with the music production app they were using. It is called istudio and it was dope! I am putting a link below and I encourage you to check it!
Check out this video of the iConnectMIDI being used with istudio app!
