Two weeks ago P5Audio announced we were official sponsors of the 8th Annual Dynamic Producer Conference – Westcoast, happening June 5th and 6th, 2009 in Los Angeles, CA. Not only will all attendees receive an entire disc of FREE sample sounds and music loops from P5Audio, those who compete in the beat competitions have the opportunity to win over $5000 in P5audio products. To find out more about this upcoming conference P5audio’s David Whiteside sat down with Chris ‘Mayday’ Rucks from DynamicProducer.com. He told us why it is so vital for aspiring producers to attend events like this. Here’s the interview…
P5audio: Yo Mayday, thanks for taking some time to talk with us.
Mayday: Thank you for having me and thank you David and P5 for all your time assistance and hard work.
P5: Definitely, anytime. So first tell me a little bit about www.DynamicProducer.com. What inspired you guys to start this service?
MD: Our CEO and Founder, Felisha Booker, was in the process of helping some producers friends make their way through the business and came to discover that their weren’t many avenues designed to help producers find their way. Out of that need, she developed the first Dynamic Producer conference back in 02 and began working on a platform where producers could learn and network.
P5: So as for the conferences, you’ve been doing these for eight years, give us an idea of what the Dynamic Producer Conference is all about. What can young producers and musicians expect to learn at these events?
MD: Our conferences are about networking, education, and opportunity. We love creating a comfortable, professional atmosphere for producers and we invite the kind of industry professionals they can build relationships with that will be fruitful. We’ve been very lucky to associate with extraordinary professionals who volunteer their time out of a passion for education. So you know if your talking to an A&R, Music Supervisor, Game Composer or Major Producer, they are there to help you. We also like to get into great music and competitions at our night events, which releases the energy after learning, networking and handling business all day. Young producers can learn essential information pertaining to finding
avenues to make money; skills and techniques to compose better music; strong networking tools to build relationships with industry execs; do’s and dont’s of the beat business, building a team around you, what to pay and what to charge for certain services, etc etc. A Dynamic Producer conferences is about knowledge, business, helping people find success and fun!
P5: Is there a particular event at the 8th Annual Producer Conference in Los Angeles, that you personally are looking forward to?
MD: Man I love the panels, not one in particular, but I love learning about things that I had no clue about. It adds new perspective when a professional is giving you their knowledge and allows you to view your own world with clearer lenses. It’s imperative to learn about your business, simply because there are things that producers don’t know that they don’t know. A DP conferences is a place to catch that information!
P5: Then on that note, tell our readers why it is so important for today’s producers to attend events like these?
MD: Producers know that to thrive in today’s market, you must be extremely talented. But, this is only half of the journey. You must network and build relationships with people who can do something with that talent. Our conferences are an excellent platform for networking. If you’re still working your way towards that level of skill, these events provide an amazing amount of knowledge that you can use immediately to add to your production skills. Also, many producers make huge mistakes when it comes to the politics of the business, how to deal with labels, managers, where they may be leaving money on the table, etc. etc. It’s imperative to learn these details from people who have been doing it, so ultimately you make the most of your career. Attendees can expect to get information in each of these critical areas, and more.
P5: On the business side I know a lot of your members have achieved a good deal of success either through using the DynamicProducer.com network, or attending the Producer Conferences. Is there one particular success story that stands out to you?
MD: There have been many success stories, but one that sticks out is one that actually just occurred a few days ago, one of our very talented songwriters (yes Dynamic Producer also operates Dynamic Songwriter, we know songwriters are the yin to a producer’s yang), just inked a major deal with Akon/Konlive. One of our producers, Wallstreet, had his artists signed to Universal / Motown recently and of course we’ve had our producers obtaining placements, REO composed a beautiful record for Beyonce’s last release and Certifyd had a great record on Keyshia Cole’s album that dropped recently. We encourage our members to make use of all avenues available to them and we teach our producers that there are many roads.
P5: That’s awesome! So let’s talk a little music real quick. Can you give us an idea of what you personally are listening to these days? What’s on your ipod right now?
MD: I’ve been listening to a lot of 70’s progressive rock lately, Yes, Genesis, Rick Wakeman, Gentle Giant, etc. Being a music lover and former producer really helps me communicate with our members about their tracks.
P5: I hear that. And as far as your members go, are there any fresh new producers you’re into that we should keep our ears out for?
MD: There are some Dynamic Producer members that I can guarantee you will be hearing from in the future. Raw Talent, Billboard, Wallstreet, The DS Bros, Wrightrax, Ruffsound, Beatfellaz, Sureshot Bros..I can go on and on. We’re very fortunate to assist our producers, they’re extremely talented and we’re proud of each and every one of them.
P5: Well I definitely can’t wait to hear their stuff. Before we’re done, is there anything else you want to tell us about Dynamic Producer.
MD: Mainly our conferences are only one section of our multifaceted company. We host smaller seminars, provide industry opportunities through our relationships with many major labels and licensing companies around the country and host a number of competitions and small events to help connect our producers to the industry. We understand that there are so many talented up and coming producers and it’s a difficult industry to break into. So we try to offer a myriad of services to help our producers accomplish their goals.
P5: That is an awesome service. Thanks again for talking with us Mayday. Looking forward to next week’s conference.
MD: Thanks again David, and thanks to the P5 family!
