POLL: Which Beat is Better…

by David Whiteside on November 2, 2008

So I go some heat from my last video tutorial!!!  Turns out some of you didn’t like the bounce style hi-hats I put on my beat!!!

So check this out; I want to hear from YOU!  I did a small remix on the beat, and layed off the hi-hats.  Now I want you to decide which one is better.  Listen to both versions below and then vote on which one you think is best.  Oh, and download a FREE SAMPLE of the Dretastic Detox Kit below as well.  If you create something hot, post it on the blog!!!

Listen to Beat Version 1 (Orginal Bounce Style)

Listen to Beat Version 2 (New lighter Hi-Hat Style)

What up Craig!

Every sound used to make this beat either came from P5audio products or Reason 4.0 stock sounds. Here is a list of what I used:

- 3 Kicks, 3 Snares, 2 Hats, 2 Crashes and 1 Shaker from P5audio’s Dretastic Detox Kit

- Guitar riff from Dre Guitar Lickz Chronicles

- Stock Guitar Sounds from Reason 4.0 (Gt Trem Edge & Gt TremoloChords)

- For main synth lead I used the Thor polysynth with the Gangsta Lead 1, processed throught the Scream 4.

- For the synth pad I used the Subtractor with the String Machine patch, processed with reverb and EQ.

- Bass I used the Subtractor with the Sub Bass 2 patch, compressed and EQ’d.

Hope this helps!

any chance of u coming out with a kit with loads of hot sample in the style of kanye west? e.g hit pitch vocals ect

David Whiteside November 7, 2008 at 11:08 am

Craig,

You can actually use our Radio Ready Vocal Chopz & Lickz products to create Kanye Style Vocals. I’m going to do a tutorial on that one of these days, but if you use Reason, you can pitch vocals right away.

Here’s how…

1) If you don’t own our Radio Ready Vocal Chopz & Lickz product, go ahead and download a free sample by copying and pasting this link into your web browser address bar:

http://www.p5audio.com/promo08/Free_Radio_Ready_Female_Vocal_Chops.zip

2) Unzip the sounds

3) Open up Reason and load one of these kits into the NN-XT sampler.

4) Then, within NN-XT, expand the NN-XT Remote Editor at the bottom of the rig.

5) Select one of the samples displayed in the middle of the NN-XT Editor Window.

5) Once selected, all of the control highlight, one of them being the pitch controls. Use this area to adjust the pitch of the sounds upward until it sounds like Kanye!

Let me know if this works for you.
